Why Isn’t Every CrossFit Workout All-Out?
A football player doesn't play a game every day. They go to practice. They work on skills, run drills, and get better at the things they'll need when it's time to compete.
That's a useful way to think about your training at MAV.
Some workouts are meant to be hard. We want you to push, and we'll help you choose a version that gives you the right challenge. Other days have a different job. You might be practicing a movement, working on control with a barbell, or learning to hold a steady pace instead of starting too fast and hanging on.
Those sessions count. You don't need to turn every one of them into a test to get something out of them.
Say the goal is to keep the same pace through several rounds. Going all-out on the first round and slowing down for the rest gives you a different workout. Your coach may ask you to ease up early so you can do the work we're actually trying to develop.
Or you might be learning a lift. Time spent practicing positions and making cleaner reps can help you build toward heavier weights. Adding weight every time isn't the only way to move forward.
This applies if you're new and if you've been training for years. Experience gives you more to work with. It doesn't remove the need to practice.
We still like hard workouts. We also want you to build the fitness and skill that help you do them well. That takes a mix of effort across the week, and a coach who explains what we're asking you to do.
When you come to MAV, we'll walk you through the purpose of the session and help you choose movements, weights, and a pace that make sense for you. You bring the effort. Some days that means pushing harder. Some days it means having the patience to practice.
