Making Room for Training in a Busy Week
Work runs late, the kids have somewhere to be, and the hour you thought you had for the gym disappears. By the end of the week, you’ve barely made it in.
If that sounds familiar, take a look at how you’re planning your training. Waiting to see what time is left at the end of the day makes it pretty easy for the gym to keep getting pushed back.
We want you training regularly at MAV. We also know you have a life outside this place. Your plan needs to leave room for both.
Pick the classes you can actually make
Look at the week before you’re in the middle of it. If Tuesday evenings are always a mess, choose a different time. If you can make two classes this week, put those two on the calendar and give yourself a chance to follow through.
You can adjust from there. A schedule that works during the summer might need to change when school starts. A new job or a different shift can change things too. The class time you’ve always attended may no longer be the easiest one to make.
Talk with us if you’re trying to figure it out. We can help you think through a routine that fits.
Make getting here a little easier
Pack your bag the night before. Bring it to work if you’re coming straight from there. Let the people at home know which evenings you’re planning to train so it’s part of the family calendar too.
None of that is exciting advice. But it helps when you’re tired, looking for your shoes, and deciding whether you have enough time to get here.
Keep going when the plan changes
Missing Monday doesn’t mean you need to wait until next Monday to start again. Look for the next class you can make.
And when you come back, tell the coach how things have been going. If you’ve been away for a while or you’re worn out from a long week, we want to know. We can talk through the workout with you and help you choose the weight, movements, and pace for that day.
You don’t have to make up for every workout you missed. Give yourself a chance to get back into a routine you can keep.
Give training a place in your week
Your schedule will change again. Some weeks you’ll get here more than others. Keep paying attention to what works, and make adjustments when it stops working.
We put a lot of care into the training and coaching at MAV. We want you to be able to keep coming, keep learning, and use what you build here outside the gym.
If you’re thinking about getting started at Maverick CrossFit in Melbourne, come talk with a coach. A No-Sweat Intro gives us a chance to hear what you’re looking for, answer your questions, and help you figure out where to start. No workout required.
