Coach Excerpt: Mike is a knowledgeable and entertaining coach who loves helping athletes discover new skills, build confidence, and find joy in doing hard things.
I coach because there is nothing better than helping someone learn a new skill or finding the one cue that suddenly changes everything.
Seeing the excitement on an athlete’s face when something finally clicks is incredibly rewarding. I love helping adults find that childlike feeling of joy and accomplishment that comes from doing something physically difficult and realizing they are capable of more than they thought.
You can expect plenty of jokes, sarcasm, and probably a lot of talking.
Underneath all of that, you will also find a coach who genuinely cares about the people in the room and loves what he does. I want athletes to enjoy training, feel comfortable asking questions, and leave class knowing they learned something or made progress.
I hold my CrossFit Level 1 and USA Weightlifting credentials. I have spent 12 years coaching Olympic weightlifting, more than 10 years coaching track and field with a focus on pole vault, and the past two years coaching at Maverick.
Those experiences have taught me how to break down technical movements, communicate ideas in different ways, and help athletes find the cues that work best for them.
Outside the gym, you will usually find me playing golf, learning new skills that have nothing to do with fitness, or spending time with my daughter and making an effort to be fully present with her.
